How do I find a book in the library?

Answer

Looking for a book? Follow the steps below to learn how to find and access physical books in the library.

1. Search for the book you are interested in reading in the library's catalog, OneSearch. You can search by the book's title, author, or a key term. Screenshot of OneSearch from the library's homepage

2. Determine the book's availability. Some materials will be available physically, others as an electronic book. If the book is available physically, OneSearch will list the book's location (e.g. third floor stacks). If the book is available electronically, OneSearch will say "Online Access."

For books located physically in the library, there are multiple places it might be located. Most books will be on the third floor, however, some might be in a book display, or in a 2nd floor collection. Be sure to note the location when on the hunt for a book. Additionally, some books are located in the library's Automated Retrieval System. If this is the case, sign in to OneSearch using your Seawolf ID and password, and place a Request for Pickup.

3. Note the call number. Most books in the library are organized using Library of Congress call numbers. Read the call numbers on the shelf from left to right until you find your book on the shelf. Books on similar subjects will be next to your book!
