What is the library’s policy on providing access to streaming media?
Answer
Selection and assessment of library materials is the responsibility of faculty librarians, with input from library staff, instructional faculty, and students, and is an essential component of the library’s curriculum. Streaming media is a relatively new format, and as such, publishers and distributors are still exploring different models for making materials available to libraries. Many of these models come with unsustainable high pricing and problematic license terms. These constraints lead us to evaluate and purchase streaming media selectively, and we are not always able to provide requested access to titles.
In addition to these cost and licensing concerns, the library can only purchase streaming licenses from vendors whose platforms meet the university’s standards for hosting, integration, authentication and accessibility.
If you would like to explore the library's options for providing access to a particular title, contact your subject librarian.
